About

In this 4 week long class, you will learn how to make the "One Hour Dress" popularized by Author Mary Brooks Picken in the 1920's. This is a simple dress with dolman sleeves & a dropped waist which can be customized in hundreds of ways. We will be focusing on the "Evening" version which will require slightly fancier fabrics and darker colors than it's day time counterpart.

Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Stitchers, please. You should know how to operate a sewing machine and willing to work with new more challenging fabrications.

Students bring their own Materials which should include:

3 1/2-4 yards fabric & Coordinating thread along with any coordinated trimmings you may have.

Suggested fabrics would be - crepe, crepe back satin, silk velvet, silk charmeuse, Chantilly lace (with drape), jacquard satins and embroidered fabrics (as long as the are not stiff in any way), chiffon, embroidered chiffon.

I recommend using natural fiber fabrics as they look more authentic and are easier to control than synthetic fabrics. There are some rayon fabrics that would work as well.
