About
Mending Matters
Don’t throw those torn jeans out - Darn It!
Tackle your mending pile this year in our new ONLINE Mending series.
Julie Ann will demonstrate one mending technique or way to solve a challenging repair at the beginning of each class before advising each student on ways to tackle their individual repairs.
Topics to be covered in the series:
• basic darning
• closing a hole in a woven vs knit • repairing tears in denim
• visible and hidden stitching
• decorative mending
• hand sewing vs machine sewing • patching with another fabric
• when to use an iron on patch
Julie Ann has been wearing and repairing her own vintage wardrobe for more than 30 years. She mends every Monday for Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles.
Bring to class: needle, thread, scissors and one or two garments that need to be repaired.
Demo: Basic Hand Darning to close a hole
This class is taught via Zoom by Julie Ann, the creator of our Hand Sewing Series on Instagram. The meeting and password will be emailed to you upon sign up.
Additionally, students will be emailed reference handouts covering all the demonstrations after class.
