San Jose Area Writing Project September 29th Saturday Seminar for 3rd-5th Graders
Revising your writing (without killing it) For 3-5 Grades Donald Murray once said “Writing is revising." But why do we resist it? Hate it? Go straight to editing? Participant teams will use mentor texts to play "editorial staff" in an inquiry lesson on revision. Try out revision strategies on your own discovery draft or free-write. Come away with tools for revising and editing all kinds of writing. Even like revising? Maybe! This workshop will be led by Laura Brown, SJAWP Associate Director and recently retired Intervention teacher from Mount Pleasant Elementary School District. About our Saturday Seminars for Students: Our Saturday Seminars use a "lab school" model, in which teachers and students participate in the presenter’s workshop lesson together in small groups, generally including the following: mini-lesson on writing craft, study of a mentor text, demonstration of innovative and engaging pedagogical strategies, large blocks of time for students and teachers to write, and sharing writing in small groups or whole group.
