San Jose Area Writing Project November 10th Saturday Seminar for 3rd-5th Graders
Getting to the Heart of the Story For 3rd-5th Grade Students will begin with brainstorming different short story ideas and then move into drafting those pieces. Using think-aloud strategies will help students pause to think about how to add details and dialogue, as well as check in to see how they could improve the piece as they go - internalizing the revising and editing processes. Everybody has a story, what's yours? We can't wait for you to share it. Alexis Doucette, SJAWP Teacher Consultant, teaches fourth grade at La Entrada School in Las Lomitas Elementary School District in Menlo Park. ************************************************************************** About our Saturday Seminars for Students: Our Saturday Seminars use a "lab school" model, in which teachers and students participate in the presenter’s workshop lesson together in small groups, generally including the following: mini-lesson on writing craft, study of a mentor text, demonstration of innovative and engaging pedagogical strategies, large blocks of time for students and teachers to write, and sharing writing in small groups or whole group.
